PIEDRA NATAL DE ENERO: Granate

JANUARY BIRTHSTONE: Garnet

With a variety of colors and shades, garnet is the stone of those born in January, under the sign of Capricorn.

It is an exemplary stone, a variety of quartz that grows in small individual clusters. Pyrope garnet is the one that has an intense red color, but there is also almadino , whose clarity is incredible; spessartine , whose color ranges from brown to red; and we find rare varieties but rich in variable shades, such as grossular , with an intense light green; andradite with a fresh and bright golden yellow color; uvarovite , with emerald green tones; and grossular , with pink tones of beautiful transparency. We cannot forget hessonite garnet, which has in its heart an intense orange that reminds us of honey; and rhodolite , with purple hues.

Among its spiritual properties are considered:

  • Increased energy (general)
  • Motivation
  • It provides courage to face the various challenges of life.
  • Used as a source of strength for the heart.

Its name comes from the Latin "granatium" meaning seed and was normally related to the seeds of the pomegranate, considered by the Greeks to be the fruit of the underworld that kept Persephone tied to Hades.

Garnet was once believed to cure melancholy and lift the spirits. It was said to be used in jewelry and for witchcraft, and it also served as an amulet. Arab monarchs always wore garnets, which symbolized sincerity (Encarta, 2000).

It was used by the Vikings as a decoration for their funerals and by the Crusaders.

At Lórien and Las Tres Joyas you can find pieces made with pyrope garnets, with high shine and delicate details. Remember that our pieces are limited and in many cases we do not replicate the designs.
